Cyber risk is now firmly on everyone’s radar due to the high-profile breaches in the media. The recent hackings of Uber, My FitnessPal and the NHS, have raised fears that data breaches and other security failures could endanger business and customer’s private information. With the increasing reliance on using online software and the internet in daily life, we understand how important it is to protect our client’s data.

Howells Solicitors Improves Security

Our IT Manager, Carl Smith, and our Systems Development Manager, Rob Williams, have been working hard to provide secure infrastructure to manage security threats; and we’re delighted to announce that we’ve achieved the Cyber Essential accreditation by APMG International with a 100% pass score.

The accreditation body are world renowned for their rigorous accreditation standards and the certification is recognised by many of the UK’s top businesses, including the CBI and FSB.

To achieve the accreditation, we had to meet the following criteria:

• Demonstrated appropriate levels of quality assurance processes, security controls, security assessment methodologies and met additional qualification criteria.
• Signed a code of conduct.
• Proven access to technically competent and qualified staff.
• Committed to abiding to the requirements of Certification Bodies for Cyber Essentials.

What Does This Mean for You?

Cyber Essentials is a government backed industry supported scheme to help organisations protect themselves against common cyber-attacks. Achieving this accreditation shows that we have essential cyber security measures in place, and demonstrates our commitment to staying safe against cyber threats.

We are actively minimising the risk against two common types of cyber-attack: phishing (malware infection generated by users clicking on malicious email attachments), and hacking (where criminals exploit vulnerabilities in internet connected services).

With the new General Data Protection Regulations coming into force on May 25th, the accreditation is confirmation that we’ve taken steps towards compliance.

This sophisticated approach to our cyber security provides our clients with the peace of mind that their data is safe with us.
