How Much Compensation Can I Claim for A Burn Injury?

The amount of burn injury compensation received varies greatly, depending on the severity of the case and the position of the burn injury on the body.

As a guide the general damages court guidelines does offer some approximations
  • Burns covering 40% or more of the body: No less than £89,000
  • Severe facial damage: Approx £30,000 - £90,000
  • Single piece of scarring or multiple scars on legs, arms, back or chest: Approx £7,000 - £22,000

How Long Do I Have to Make a Burn Injury Compensation Claim?

You typically have three years from the occurrence date to file a claim if you have burn injuries. There are a few exceptions, such as the two-year time limit on criminal assault claims.

The deadline begins to run as of the alleged date of the burn injury occurring or you became aware that negligence was to blame for your injury or impairment.

Even though three years may seem like a long time, in some circumstances it is a relatively short time to realise wrongdoing. Therefore, be sure to conduct independent inquiries as soon as you can before coming to our knowledgeable team of burn injury solicitors if you think you have a claim for burn injury compensation.

You have ten years from the day the product was introduced to file a claim if a defective product caused your burn injury.

If the burn injury has occurred to a minor, then it is slightly different. If a child under the age of 18 has an accident, the limitation clock does not start until the child’s 18th birthday. Following the acceptance of your claim, the Defendants will be contacted, and the value of your compensation will be determined by gathering medical and other evidence. There are two types of compensation: general damages and particular damages.

General damages, which are assessed or evaluated based on the information in a medical report and the type and severity of your accident, are the money you will be compensated for the pain and suffering you have had because of your burn injury.

Other monetary losses, such as past and future lost wages, medical costs, care and support, the price of home adaptations and handicap equipment, etc., are included in special damages.
