Ectopic Pregnancy Misdiagnosis Claims

An ectopic pregnancy is when the baby develops outside the uterus, usually in a fallopian tube. If not diagnosed and treated quickly, this type of pregnancy can have serious consequences and even have an impact on a woman’s chances of getting pregnant in the future. Therefore, if you have been misdiagnosed, you could have a claim for compensation.

Have You Suffered from Ectopic-Related Medical Negligence?

Medical negligence could have occurred if:
  • A medical professional misdiagnosed the ectopic pregnancy
  • There was a failure to undertake any tests for ectopic pregnancy
  • There was a failure or delay in treatment, including the prescribing of ‘methotrexate’, which prevents the egg developing in the fallopian tube
  • After a routine scan was performed which did not show the baby in the womb, no additional tests were carried out
  • There was surgical error when removing a fallopian tube
  • There was a failure to remove the pregnancy or it is incomplete
  • There was a failure to monitor recovery post treatment
If you have been victim of medical negligence during or after an ectopic pregnancy, you could claim for the following:
  • Injury or loss suffered
  • Loss of earnings
  • Cost of medical treatment
  • Cost of therapy
  • Cost of travel or other expenses
  • Legal costs incurred
The failure to diagnose or treat an ectopic pregnancy can cause both physical and mental suffering. We can help you get the compensation you deserve.

Case Study: Failure to Diagnose Ectopic Pregnancy

S v Betsi Cadwaladwr University Health Board

This claim arose out of a failure to diagnose ectopic pregnancy, as a result of a delay in performing required blood tests. Consequently, the patient collapsed and suffered extensive haemorrhaging requiring multiple blood transfusions and surgery to remove one fallopian tube (Salpingectomy / Salpingo-oophorectomy).

Fortunately, the claimant’s fertility was not impacted; however, damages were still awarded in the region of £15,000.00 for the pain and suffering caused.
