Employers’ Liability (Accidents at Work) Case StudiesClient was working as an apprentice labourer. He was given the task of laying trestles on the roof of a 3 storey building. He caught his foot on a trestle and twisted his knee badly. The client had to undergo a surgical procedure to reconstruct the ligaments of his knee.

On the 23rd August 2011 our client was placed on a six month training scheme with a firm of builders in Port Talbot as a trainee construction worker. When our client started work he was undertaking general labouring work which included; digging holes and drains, hacking off concrete rendering from houses and filling skips. He was not given a formal training and he learned how to do these types of tasks by watching other employees. He was not provided with any safety equipment.
On the day of the accident our client was using a Kango drill to hack off render from a building, when a piece of render entered his left eye. Liability on behalf of the employers was initially denied but with Howells gathering evidence to support the claim, liability was eventually admitted.
